An emotional memorial ceremony was held to honor the late journalist Denise D'ascenzo at the CT Convention Center. D'ascenzo passed away during her steep on Dec 17, 2019, in her home in Branford-CT to what her family suspect was due to a heart attack. The commemoration was a symbolic event that celebrated her life, career, and sense of humor.
Denis House, anchor, and co-host at WFSB-TV opened up the event with an emotional speech, “Today as we continue to grief and mourn, we celebrate a beautiful soul and pay tribute to a sister, a wife, a mother, a leader, a teacher, and now a legend”, added holding his tears.

At all times during the ceremony, her love and passion for her career were mentioned, and short clips of her most remarkable stories were presented to the attendees.

Dana Naves, general manager of WFSB-TV, spoke about D’ascenzo, not in the way of a manager, but her work- sister “To know Denise was to love her immediately, she was one of a kind in all ways. We're thrilled to live our lives as she always said it, "be open, be brave, be kind” 

D’ascenzo’s peers told various anecdotes that were inspiring and funny at times, which described the wonderful personality and sense of humor of the journalist.

It was announced that WFSB-TV physical address has now changed to 3 Denise D’ascenzo Way, Rocky Hill-CT, in recognition to the remarkable and talented life of the late journalist.

Governor Lamont made a presence and said, “She was a trailblazer; she loved CT. Someone told me she used to say that, “CT is small enough to be a family and big enough to be interesting,” and that is why we are crazy sad". In a press release, governor Lamont announced that he had signed a proclamation to celebrate January 30th as the Denise D’ascenzo Day, in tribute to her birthday, “For more than 30 years, Denise D’ascenzo entered millions of homes through her news broadcast becoming an extended member of each of our families"

To honor her legacy, D'ascenzo's husband announced the new Denise D'ascenso Foundation in collaboration with her family, WFSB-TV and Liberty Bank. The foundation will focus on advances on women’s health, children’s issues, and journalism studies, which were causes that the journalist supported during her lifetime.

Denise D’ascenzo was the first woman to be inducted to the CT Broadcasters Association Hall of Fame. She also won 11 Emmy Grammys and several other awards.
